Theater Under the Stairs is presenting “The Kinda True Story of Mona Coyote” Thursday, August 14, through Friday, August 22, at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Written by Christopher Compton and directed by Holly Erin McCarthy, “Mona Coyote” is an original play for children and families.
Based on Miguel de Cervantes’s classic tale, “Don Quixote,” “Mona Coyote” is a swashbuckling tale about a girl who shares Don Quixote’s vivid imagination and hunger for adventure; through her power of pretending, she changes the world around her.
Mona's imagination is so strong that she brings her friend, Sammy Panzo, right into the game with her. Sammy is a bored-to-death 11-year-old, stuck working behind the counter at his mother’s business.
Theater Under the Stars has presented a family show every summer since 2011, including last year’s “Lulu’s Lemonade Stand,” which was based on Homer’s “Odyssey,” and “Frog: A Modern Fairy Tale,” the previous year.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 14 to 16, at 10 AM and 12:30 PM, and Wednesday, August 20, through Friday, August 22, at 10 AM and 12:30 PM.
Tickets are $10. To purchase tickets, visit artsonthecape.org, or call 508-428-0669.
The arts center is at 4404 Falmouth Road (Route 28) in Cotuit.
