Thanks to a grant from the Highland Street Foundation, the Cape Cod Museum of Art will hold its fifth Free Fun Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM on July 25. Admission will be free all day, with no registration or tickets required.
Special events will end at 3 PM, but the museum will remain open free of charge until it closes at 5 PM.
Visitors will be able to view all four of the museum’s current special exhibitions: “Personal Reflections: A Retrospective Collection by William R. Davis,” “Collection in Context: Modernism and the Cape Cod Landscape,”
“Treasures from the Cahoon Museum of American Art” and “Elements of Passion: A Soccer Fan Watches the World Cup,” featuring photographs by John Babineau. Docents will be on hand to discuss the artworks.
In addition, the museum has scheduled a number of special attractions designed to help put the “fun” in Free Fun Friday. Several members of the Cape Cod Plein Air Painters will set up their easels and paint in the Yasuna Denny Sculpture Garden. Ceramics instructor Nat Doane will give demonstrations in the Harry Holl Sculpture and Clay Studio throughout the day. Vocalist and guitarist Doc Raylove will stroll through the galleries playing folk, soft rock and blues. Outside on the museum’s portico, Rene King will keep things lively as she leads visitors in two Drums Alive rhythmical dance routines. In addition, the Dennis Village Mercantile (“The Merc”), a gourmet deli and bakery, will have baked goods available for purchase at the museum.
Free Fun Friday features plenty of activities especially for children. Archie’s Kites will be on hand to guide youngsters in making and flying kites. A presentation by Harwich Junior Theatre’s Junior Players is scheduled for the morning. Exhibitions curator Michael Giaquinto will oversee picture painting in the garden. Girl Scouts from Dennis and Yarmouth troops will conduct face painting and craft activities in the museum’s Weny Education Center.
The Cape Cod Museum of Art is at 60 Hope Lane, off Route 6A in Dennis.
Other venues participating in Free Fun Friday on July 25 include Battleship Cove in Fall River, the Children’s Museum in Easton, Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Arnold Arboretum and the Danforth Art Museum and School in Framingham.
