Yesterday was a weird day, very, very weird.
I got the call from XM-radio’s MLB station to go on the air, and that came out of left field. Chuck Wilson was the host, which was cool, but I would have had a lot more fun if the actual host of that time slot had been there. You see my all-time favorite ESPN sportscaster does that show, Charley Steiner. In case you’re too young to remember who Charley Steiner is, he was the funniest guy they’ve ever had. He did some gems for the “This Is SportsCenter” ad campaign. Here are a few.
So, no Charlie, but that’s okay. The interview went well as we talked for 15 minutes about the Cape League and MLB’s issues. You know that story I broke a week ago that went from a little story to national attention. I think my 15 minutes are about up, by the way. For the record, I came out on the Cape League’s side of the argument. The CCBL is angry at me for breaking the story — they wanted it kept hush, hush — but I believe that MLB is being stupid to allow this kind of negative publicity get out. They should just take a $1 payment from the Cape League and move on, it’s not worth the headaches.
So after that I had to drive to my dentist, but my dentist is not nearby. He’s actually two hours away, in Groton. As Eagle One said, “I used to work up that way. There’s no easy way to get to Groton.”
True, true. It took forever, and then the diagnosis was, are you ready for this, that it wasn’t a tooth deal at all. Apparently I have acute sinusitis, which leads to the severe tooth pain. They took x-rays, no tooth problems. So all that driving, plus the appointment, equals about seven hours time only to find out that I was at the wrong doctor’s office.
Today I saw the ear, nose and throat specialist, and yup, my sinuses are messed up. And, I have a very off-kiltered septum, deviated like crazy. Not good times.
I’m now on some drugs, and hoping that they’ll help. I can tell you this, though, it’s been two hours and I’m still in pain. Okay, so I’m impatient, but I’ve been dealing with this for over a week now and every minute that passes leaves me less and less sane. I’m about 36 hours away from becoming Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
