AC Baby, It ain’t Vegas, and that’s okay

Outside my window right now there are countless twinkling lights putting on a beautiful show. On the side of Harrah’s there’s a moving rainbow of bulbs, making a variety of appealing patters. Next to it is a hotel/casino I don’t know that is glowing gold. Then next to is Borgata, where I hope to one day play for a WPT championship.

I’m on the 32nd floor of a place called the Flagship, a decent hotel minus the casino. Oh well, I’ve got to walk or drive a few blocks to gamble. We’ve got beaches on a couple of sides, a big marina down the road, and all the entertainment.

Why isn’t AC rated higher by the general populace? The weather from May to October trumps (sorry for the pun) Vegas. I know why Vegas is so big, I just don’t get why Atlantic City doesn’t get more love? This place is A-OK in my book.

The plan for the week calls for some poker (surprise, surprise). I’ve been doing some research and I think the prices and the structures at The Trop are probably best. If I win big over there early in the week then I’ll hit Borgota.

I’ve promised Rye some mini golf. Obviously we’re hitting the beaches at some point. I picked up a book that looks interesting to work on my sunburn with. Unfortunately with the MLB in its all-star break starting Monday we won’t be hitting any ballparks, although my sister’s fiance and I are thinking about finding a minor league team nearby and taking Rye over to see a game there.

I’m sure there are some awfully boring girly things that we’ll end up doing over the course of the week. Those are seemingly unavoidable. Ah, married life. What can you do?

Wish Eagle One were here to run with me through the casinos, but Baby Brother II-to-be will have do. It’s going to be interesting breaking in a new protege.

    Hi Rich,

There are a lot of folks I know in PA & NJ who think the casinos destroyed Atlantic City. I grew up in the Phila. area and remember as a kid when it was a real beach town with a boardwalk that didn’t have casinos – they had rides and all of that stuff you would expect on a boardwalk. Casinos brought stuff that Atlantic City didn’t have – prostitutes, crime, etc. and it drove out the homeowners – many, many houses were leveled to build those casinos.

When I go to the Jersey shore I usually end up in Ocean City or Cape May. That’s my 2 cents.
