And so it begins

Here I am in yet another hockey rink. Don’t know how it happened, bu it’s December 12 and I’m at Mashpee High’s season-opener against Middleboro. Currently the Falcons are laying the smack down on the ‘boro, leading 4-0 late in the second period.

Mashpee now plays at the new Kennedy Rink in Hyannis, never to be confused with the old one. That place was one of my least favorite spots on earth. If they’d had asked I would have helped lay the charges to blow the place up and happily pushed the red button.

This place is so different its not funny. the lights are bright, the room is chilly but not painfully cold. The snack bar is state of the art (I paid for coffee and a cookie with a credit card). The parking leaves a little to be desired, at least anything close to the rink, but all in all it’s an unbelievable step up for the Falcons, and Barnstable High School too.

After this one it’s over to a less modern facility, the Falmouth Ice Arena. It will be at least 20 degrees colder in there, that’s for sure.

Winter is officially here as far as I’m concerned. Once the skating and checking begins it’s time for the Christmas tree and egg nog.
