All anyone needs to do to get a taste of the true lack of transparency regarding how the Barnstable County Commissioners facilitate the creation of a county-wide waste water district and the horrendous tax burden it will place upon all of us, is too attend a few of their weekly meetings in Barnstable. Witnessing how they conduct such meetings in person will provide a first-hand account.

>> The public record is clear on exactly how former State Sen. Rob O’Leary feels about the subject.

And Rob O'Leary isn't in public office anymore. He's been acting in an advisory capacity, and there is a lot standing between him and making any kind of authority a reality, namely residents, selectmen, county commissioners, and the heads of the Cape Cod Commission and the Cape Cod Water Protection Collaborative, all of whom have said they're not in favor of it. O'Leary can recommend a taxpayer-funded authority until he's blue in the face, but unless it makes it through a multi-layered process that is already stacked against it, acting like O'Leary has some sort of unstoppable magical authority-creation power is ludicrous.

>> Political candidates who now inexplicably appear overly aggressive in trying to distance themselves from regional facilitation of the wastewater management problem...

Inaccurate statement. No one is distancing themselves from regional facilitation, they are rejecting the concept of a taxpayer-funded authority. Big difference.

>> ...warnings about potential federal lawsuit consequences are engaging in nothing less than political fear mongering and scare tactics! Voters must not allow such officials to succeed in playing politics with their lives or bullying them!

You mean the lawsuit that is already well in-process? Also, why is it all right for one side to fear-monger, but not the other? Because you happen to agree/disagree with what they're saying? Either they're all plying the situation for political gain or none of them are. Can't have it both ways.

You are correct! The public record is clear on exactly how former State Sen. Rob O'Leary feels about the subject. Mr. O'Leary, co-chairman of the Barnstable County Special Commission on County Governance, to this day has long advocated the specific creation of a Massachusetts Water Resources Authority type of wastewater management entity for Cape Cod. Any statements to the contrary are simply disinformation and outright attempts to throw up a cloud of confusion among the Cape Cod community. Too many news reports and public documents exist which make this clear.

Furthermore, relative to the current county commissioners, the taxpayers and voters should only trust them with a healthy dose of skepticism and caution. During the forthcoming November election, Cape Cod voters need to think carefully about who they elect to public office at the county or regional level. Political candidates who now inexplicably appear overly aggressive in trying to distance themselves from regional facilitation of the wastewater management problem (so they may expediently claim political deniability) or who incessantly belch out warnings about potential federal lawsuit consequences are engaging in nothing less than political fear mongering and scare tactics! Voters must not allow such officials to succeed in playing politics with their lives or bullying them! Cape voters should responsibility and astutely employ their commonsense and logic when approaching this matter on Election Day.

And here we have in a nutshell one of the big things wrong in politics these days: people embrace "information" that is utterly unsubstantiated and therefore possibly completely fictitious, over that which is established, proven, and vetted, because the rumor and innuendo fits their preconceived conclusions about a given topic -- and then respond to challenges to the information's authenticity with excuses and equally cockeyed theories, if for no other reason that to distance themselves should the argument prove complete bunk.

The topic of wastewater management on Cape Cod is being undermined by a very small handful of people -- one especially driven, I dare say obsessed individual in particular -- who cannot deal in hard facts and must instead twist information to suit their preferred narrative. Such chicanery is NOT helping the debate and only stands to harm the public. Shameless dissemination of propaganda, even outright lies, will not generate a good answer to this very thorny question.

Well, I suppose they might have simply been just too drunk to know any better. People do drink to relax, remove stress and unwind ya know. People also tend to say things which they otherwise may not say if they think that someone else is paying attention. Look at the screw ups Romney has been making in recent weeks. You will have to ask them that. I do not claim to know what goes on in the heads of other people or understand the motives for what they do.

And an alleged overheard conversation in a bar is more valid than statements made in public and on video how?

As a matter of fact, Candidate Steinhilber is one hundred percent right on the money about there being ongoing efforts by the county commissioners and Rob O'Leary to establish a Cape Cod Waste Water Entity. Transparency? I do not think so. Overheard them talking at a local bar no so long ago.
