Massachusetts Audubon’s annual Birdathon, a fundraising competition to support conservation across the state, is a 24-hour bird identification contest that begins at 6 PM Friday, May 16, and ends at 6 PM on Saturday, May 17.
In 2013, almost 800 birders competed on 30 teams that traversed the state in search of both rare and common bird species. Last year, 270 species were identified, either by sight or ear. Those who cannot compete in the field may still participate in various ways, including as Birdathon Boosters to support teams or individuals by fundraising.
Birders of all levels of experience and ability can participate. For more information, including how to participate or donate, go to www.massaudubon.org/birdathon.
