The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s (ARL) Spay Waggin’ will make a stop at Sullivan Tire on Route 130 in Sandwich on Tuesday, April 29. The mobile spay/neuter unit performs low-cost surgeries and other preventive healthcare for cat owners (and small dogs) in financial need on the Cape and South Shore.
Staffed by an Animal Rescue League veterinarian and two certified veterinary technicians, the Spay Waggin’ features a preparation area, a fully equipped surgical suite, and a recovery ward that can accommodate up to 40 animals.
Pets are seen by appointment only. Each appointment includes a physical exam, spay (females) or neuter (males), rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, and flea/ear mite treatment if necessary. An appointment costs $75 for cats.
The Spay Waggin’ also offers limited appointments to owners of small dogs, 20 pounds or less, as well as owners of pit bulls. Appointments are subject to space availability and prices vary for dogs. Heartworm testing for dogs is available for an additional $20.
All cats and dogs must be between the ages of 2 months and 5 years.
To make an appointment, call 1-877-590-SPAY(7729) or book online (cats only). The phone line is open Monday through Wednesday and Fridays, from 10 AM to 4 PM. For other inquiries, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
In 2013, the Spay Waggin’ treated more than 4,000 cats and dogs at its monthly stops throughout Barnstable, Bristol, and Plymouth counties.
Sullivan Tire will host the Spay Waggin’ at various locations on the Cape and South Shore each month.
