Bangs Hallet House opens with Native American exhibit
The Historical Society of Old Yarmouth’s Captain Bangs Hallet House Museum will open for the season Friday, June 14, with a new exhibit, “Beads, Baskets, Art and Artifacts of the 19th century Eastern Native Americans.” The exhibit from the personal collection of Charles and Barbara Adams of South Yarmouth will feature rare items never seen before from the families of Benedict Arnold and President James Monroe. The exhibit runs to July 14.
The fully furnished 19th century home with a colonial kitchen from the 1700s also features artifacts from the maritime era of Yarmouth Port sea captains’ voyages to the Far East. The museum is open Friday to Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. with continuing tours led by docents through mid-October. The last tour starts at 3 p.m. Fee is $3 adult, 50 cents children. Yarmouth residents are free. For more information, visit www.hsoy.org.
