Melinda Gallant will present a one-woman show, “And Then What Happened? (or Never Wear Spanx to Fenway Park),” at the Black Box Theater at Cotuit Center for the Arts from June 8 through June 24. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 PM and Sunday at 4 PM. Tickets are $12.

“And Then What Happened” is an offbeat and witty look at life’s lessons, presented in the form of a life coaching session by a character named Melinda, “your chauffeur to life,” who is described as a voluptuous and sometimes goddess-like sexygenarian.

“It is a light-hearted show,” said Gallant, “with some reality to it.” Aided by a flip chart, a laser pointer, and questionnaires for the audience, she offers advice on working, aging, and feeling important (carry a scepter), and, of course, what not to wear to Fenway Park.

Melinda gives credit to her husband Joe Gallant for writing the show. She started dating Joe, a professional watercolor artist, when she was 15, so he knows everything about her, she said.

But Melinda incorporates a lot of improv into the show (she graduated from Boston’s Improv Asylum two years ago, a lone older person in a sea of young people) and involves the audience in the process, so every show will be different.

This is Gallant’s premiere presentation of “And Then What Happened.” She has been doing comedy since her college theater days and did sketch comedy and song parodies with a partner, Kathy Ellis Knowles, using material written by her husband. They performed across the state for 10 or 12 years. When the act broke up, she decided she wanted to try comedy on her own, and the new show was born.

Gallant has served on the boards of many arts organizations, taught community children’s theater, directed numerous plays, dinner theaters and variety shows on Cape Cod, and has acted in several independent films. She is directing “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” by Alan Ball, for Cotuit Center for the Arts in September.
