Faced with the reality that her only child will soon leave for college, film-funder turned filmmaker, Lyda Kuth, becomes anxious about how her daughter will fare in today's world of love and romance, but also about her own relationship with her husband of 20 years. What will life be like after her daughter leaves? What does love, marriage and long-term commitment really mean? Ms. Kuth talks to experts and non-experts alike, such as filmmaker Josh Safdie, playwright and musician Kyle Jarrow, author and scholar Stephanie Coontz and others about their successes and failures of the heart.
"Love and Other Anxieties," a midlife story, is both personal and poetic. With the help of editor/co-writer Lucia Small, Ms. Kuth has crafted a meditative documentary that is poignantly intimate and surprisingly universal.
In discussing the reasons for switching hats from film funder to filmmaker, Ms. Kuth says, "It is important to me that my film resonates with people from both my generation and my daughter's generation. My goal is to spark a conversation about the uncertainties and anxieties that people of all ages feel when it comes to love, romance and marriage in the world of rapidly changing relationships. Reflecting on my own story in love has given me a certain kind of freedom to be more accepting of myself and certainly a bit less anxious. I hope that the film will help others to do the same."
