"Symphony Tales," a music and literacy program for students will be stopping at local libraries in Falmouth on Tuesday, December 11, a Falmouth Public Schools early release day.
Members of New Bedford Symphony will appear at the Woods Hole Public Library at 11 AM, the West Falmouth Library at 2 PM and the Falmouth Public Library at 3:15 PM.
The event, geared for ages 3 to 8, is made possible by a grant awarded to Falmouth choral group, Mastersingers by the Sea and will feature members of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and author Kimberly Marcus.
Ms. Marcus will read her book "Scritch-Scratch a Perfect Match," followed by a musical performance inspired by the book by composer David MacKenzie and cellist Shay Rudolph. While the book is read, the cello will “speak” the text using musical notes and rhythms.
The 40-minute program will end with interactive activities designed to build musical and phonemic perception skills, and children will be invited to take a turn on a cello sized just for them. There will also be time for questions.
