Where: Sandwich Public Library | 142 Main Street | Sandwich
Titcomb’s Bookshop will host Dr. Leana S. Wen, co-author of When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests, on Sunday, March 24th at 1:00pm at the Sandwich Public Library for a book talk and signing. The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
By empowering patients to engage with their doctors as partners in their diagnosis, When Doctors Don't Listen is an essential guide that enables patients to speak up and take back control of their health care. In this examination of the doctor-patient relationship, Drs. Wen and Joshua Kosowsky argue that diagnosis, once the cornerstone of medicine, is fast becoming a lost art, with grave consequences. Using real-life stories of cookbook-diagnoses-gone-bad, the doctors illustrate how active patient participation can prevent these mistakes.
Dr. Leana Wen is a physician at Harvard and Brigham & Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital and a former Rhodes Scholar. Inspired by her own childhood illness and then her mother's long battle with cancer, Dr. Wen is passionate about guiding patients to advocate for better care. She has been featured in TIME, Newsweek, ABC News, The New York Times, Washington Post, Teen Vogue, and the award-winning HBO documentary Reporter. A professional speaker for ten years, she is sought after in the U.S. and around the world, with annual engagements throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.
