Three art shows: “Interplay: Mixed Media Digital Art,” “Paintings by Jaime Elkins,” and “37 Shades of Clay,” by Lois Hirshberg, will be featured at Cotuit Center for the Arts April 6 through May 15.
The opening reception for all three is Saturday, April 6, from 5 to 7 PM. There will be a “Following Friday” brown bag lunch lecture/artist talk on Friday, April 12 at noon, as well as an ArtSynergies Gallery Talk on Saturday, April 27 at 2 PM.
“Interplay: Mixed Media Digital Art” is a celebration of the integration of digital imaging technology with more traditional art forms. Curated by Mary Doering, Barbara Ford Doyle, and Martine Jore of ArtSynergies, the show includes the works of these artists and 18 invited guests who create mixed-media art with computers and other techniques such as painting, collage, printmaking, sculpture, encaustic, fiber arts, or bookmaking.
Ms. Doyle’s work is from a series she did on her iPhone. For “LA Wedding,” Ms. Doyle took photos of wedding guests from their knees down. “People don’t care if you’re taking pictures of them with your iPhone because they don’t think you’re serious,” she said. Ms. Doyle put the images to film and then transfered them to copper plates, which imbue the images with the warm glow of the afternoon light.
Ms. Doering employs non-conventional surfaces and a variety of printing techniques to convey her artistry, which includes cutting up photographs, scanning paintings and other images, and combining them digitally.
For Ms. Jore, who has worked in a variety of sculptural, collage, and print media, has created for this show a large work printed on fabric panels, superimposed with mixed media.
