Two back-to-back house fires kept the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department busy on Sunday afternoon.

According to Acting Deputy Chief Timothy R. Small, firefighters were dispatched at 3:19 PM to a Plum Hollow Road, Hatchville, home to extinguish a basement fire. Falmouth received mutual aid from the Mashpee Fire Department.

Then at 3:38 PM, while still at the scene in Hatchville, the department received a report of a second house fire at a Collins Road, Waquoit, home. Dep. Small said this fire was on the first floor of the two-story home and caused significant fire damage to that floor, as well as smoke damage to the entire home.

Firefighters from the Cotuit-Osterville-Marstons Mills, Bourne, and Massachusetts Military Reservation fire departments—who were providing station coverage during the Plum Hollow Road call—provided mutual aid at the Waquoit scene.

No injuries were reported at either house.

Dep. Small said the causes of each fire have not yet been determined, and the two cases are under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department and the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office.
