Longtime Mullen Hall Elementary School Teacher Dies

Lysa Ann (Lebherz) Benton of Mashpee, longtime Mullen Hall School art teacher and member of the Cape Cod art community, died on September 29.

Calling hours and a celebration of her life are set for tonight from 5 to 7 PM at Chapman Cole & Gleason of Mashpee, 74 Algonquin Avenue, Mashpee, followed immediately by short memorial service. The burial services will be private.

Her family said Ms. Benton was always very proud of her young artists and was known at Mullen Hall for her yearly imaginative art shows. Ms. Benton was also very involved in the art community and other many projects. Falmouth Enterprise files are filled with mentions of projects ranging from teaching bookbinding to adults to creating imaginative challenges for her students.

This past May, she and a colleague teamed up with the Falmouth School Department to launch a new collaborative endeavor for children titled "Inspired by Nature." The Falmouth Artists Guild, the Cape Cod Conservatory, Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries at Bourne Farm, and the Falmouth Museums on the Green all joined  a program that allowed students to spend a day at each venue discovering the effects of nature on art, music, science and history.

A full obituary will be in tomorrow’s Mashpee and Falmouth Enterprises.
