A jury of 12 found John Rams Jr. not guilty of the murder of Shirley M. Reine.
The jury deliberated for less than two hours and found that the evidence presented by the commonwealth was not beyond a reasonable doubt.
A jubilant reception greeted Mr. Rams as he walked out of the courthouse, unshackled and unhandcuffed. His father, with tears in his eyes, said that the family would now get a meal to celebrate the verdict.
“Now we need to get help for John John,” John Rams Sr. said.
Loretta Gilfoy, the sister of Shirley Reine, who testified earlier in the trial, walked out of the courtroom in tears on the shoulder of an acquaintance after the jury foreman read the sentence.
