63-Year-Old Woman Overdoses On Heroin At Southport in Mashpee

Mashpee’s latest heroin overdose has occurred at a most unlikely location—the Southport “active adult” retirement community off Old Barnstable Road.

Shortly after 3:30 PM on Thursday, May 15, Mashpee police responded to a Portside Drive address in the Southport complex to conduct a well-being check.

Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive 63-year-old woman who appeared to have suffered a head injury.

According to police reports, first responders noticed what appeared to be heroin and a hypodermic needle near the victim and were able to slightly revive the woman by administering a dose of Narcan.

Narcan is a nasal spray antidote that reverses the effects of an opiate overdose.

Upon resuscitation, the victim was transported to Falmouth Hospital. She was then transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where as of this afternoon, May 19, she remains in the intensive care unit.

The unidentified victim is the daughter of a Southport resident.
