Five Mashpee Runners In Boston Marathon

Five runners from Mashpee participated in today's Boston Marathon, the site of two explosions near the finish line that killed at least two people and injured 23, according to Boston Police.

The Mashpee runners are Philip A. Davis, 42; Michael J. Falcone, 36; Tom Frazier, 55; Karen Shastany, 50; and Sandy Xenos, 61, according to a list of entrants on the official Boston Marathon web site.

The Enterprise was not able to immediately reach the runners’ families.

Mr. Davis and Ms. Shastany finished the race, according to the site. Mr. Falcone, Mr. Frazier, and Ms. Xenos all logged times at the half-way mark, but no final run time was given.

Runners who were still on the course were diverted from the finish line after the explosions.

According to media reports, the two explosions occurred within seconds of each other about two hours after the winners crossed the finish line on the north side of Boylston street.

Geoff Spillane, a reporter for the Enterprise who was near Massachusetts General Hospital today, called it an “incredibly sad scene."
