Starting on May 23, seafood lovers will be able to enjoy oysters on the half shell and a drink outside The Lure in New Seabury.
Mashpee Board of Selectmen approved an application by New Seabury Resource Management, doing business as The Lure at Popponesset, for a new seasonal, all-alcohol restaurant license, at a public hearing on Monday, April 28.
Also approved at the public hearing was a request for live entertainment, which restaurant manager Stephen T. Brennan said will be outside. Like all Mashpee businesses, the restaurant will be required to end outside entertainment by 10 PM.

Selectmen proclaimed May 13, 2014, as Thomas J. O’Neill Day, encouraging the residents of Mashpee to honor Mr. O’Neill, the owner of Thomas J. O’Neill, Inc. custom home design company in Mashpee Commons. Mr. O’Neill will be presented with the 2014 Mashpee Citizen of the Year Award at the annual chamber of commerce dinner that night, from 5 to 8 o’clock at the Willowbend Country Club.
“Tom is more than deserving of it,” selectman John J. Cahalane said. “Over the years, he’s done a lot of things.”

Perry’s Last Stand was granted approval to provide beach concession services to the town for a third year, after proposing the highest bid for the right to operate concessions at South Cape Beach, Attaquin Park, and Johns Pond Park from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

An application of the Mashpee Rod & Gun Club to use their liquor license on the dates of May 10 and June 14 was approved unanimously.

Selectmen approved unanimously a request by shellfish commission chairman Peter Thomas to appoint Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe member Marcus Hendricks to the commission. Mr. Hendricks will be replacing member Perry Ellis, who resigned.

Selectman Michael R. Richardson announced that he will participate in an “Employer Day” hosted by the Massachusetts Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve on Friday, May 16, from 8:30 AM to 3 PM.
A part of an Employer Outreach Program, the event includes a tour of the US Coast Guard Station at Woods Hole and an opportunity to meet military personnel.
