Mashpee Public Schools will begin next school year with a districtwide administrative reorganization.
Superintendent Brian A. Hyde announced in an e-mail to staff May 19 a list of administrative changes, which includes Kenneth C. Coombs School assistant principal Wendy M. Lithwin’s new role as principal of the school. Ms. Lithwin will be replacing current principal Elaine M. Pender, who has accepted a position at Orleans Elementary School.
In addition to Ms. Lithwin’s reassignment, Quashnet School assistant principal MaryKate O’Brien will take on a part-time assistant principal position at KC Coombs and serve as a math integration data specialist for preschool through grade 6; high school guidance department chairman Lindsay L. Kett has been named the director of preschool through grade 12 guidance and college and career readiness; Mashpee High School assistant principal Timothy M. Rumberger will become the Quashnet School assistant principal, as his position will be replaced by two headmasters, or assistant principals: high school history teacher Mark L. Balestracci will serve as the headmaster for grades 7 through 9 and
Kevin A. Turner, who is currently the principal of Harwich High School, will be the headmaster for grades 10 through 12.
Mr. Hyde also assigned several teachers to take on the roles of department heads for grades 7 through 12, including middle school language arts teacher Brian Allen for the English department; high school science teacher Suzanne M. Avtges for the science department; high school social studies teacher Brian J. Brodie for the history department; and high school math teacher Kerri C. Brodie for the math department.
The e-mail, sent by 4th grader Patrick Morin, who was chosen to serve as the acting superintendent of schools for the day, also mentioned that middle school principal Sheila A. Arnold has accepted a position in another school district—although her retirement was announced by Mr. Hyde in February—and congratulated administrators on their new positions.
