Dennis Arthur O’Neil of Centerville, who leaves a daughter in Sandwich, died on April 17. He was 71.
He was married for 45 years to Rita F. (Souza) O’Neil, who died in 2011.
Mr. O’Neil, who was born in Boston, moved to Cape Cod after getting married.
He worked for 20 years at the Barnstable County House of Correction. During this time he received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Cape Cod Community College.
Mr. O’Neil retired in 2002 but stayed active by working part time in the paint department at Home Depot.
He enjoyed his beagles and working in the yard. He was also member of Mariners Fraternal Lodge in Cotuit.
Mr. O’Neil leaves two daughters, Shannon Marie O’Neil of Sandwich and Denise Theresa Witter of Centerville; and a brother, Kevin M. O’Neil of Brockton.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, April 23, from 4 to 7 PM at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 24, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main Street, Centerville.
Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville.
