Kevin Joseph Hughes, 74, of Osterville, who leaves family in Mashpee, died of cancer on June 21.
He was the husband of Mary Mickevich Hughes. They were married for 45 years.
Mr. Hughes was born in Boston, the son of Richard and Mary (Bredican) Hughes. The family settled in Brookline, and Mr. Hughes earned his associate’s degree from Northeastern University.
He worked at a number of New England-area precision manufacturing companies over the course of his 50-year career, including Honeywell, Raytheon, and Gordon Engineering, where he worked on electronics that were used in outer space.
Mr. Hughes also served in the US Army Reserves, where he earned distinction for his marksmanship, and worked for the federal government as a contract negotiator at both Sikorsky in Stratford, Connecticut, and the Naval Underwater Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island.
He and his wife lived on Cape Cod for 36 years. They traveled frequently, domestically and abroad, over the last decade.
He enjoyed fixing mechanical devices in his garage, watching his children play sports, and shopping for bargains.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hughes leaves four children, including Stacey Souza and her husband, Jason Souza, of Mashpee; three siblings; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated June 25 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Avenue, Osterville.
