Robert A. McKernan, 67, died unexpectedly at his home in Barnstable on August 13. He leaves family in Bourne.
He grew up in Framingham and graduated from Framingham High School in 1964. Mr. McKernan then graduated from Northeastern University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement.
He moved to Cape Cod in 1972.
Mr. McKernan was the owner of Budgetel Communications and also worked as a security consultant before his retirement in 2011.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the status of fourth degree knight. He also wrote poetry. His favorite poem, “A Visit to the Seashore,” is archived at the National Library of Poetry.
Mr. McKernan leaves his wife, Susan (Stransky) McKernan; his two daughters, Noel Marie Lion of North Hollywood, California, and Heather McKernan of Yarmouth; his stepdaughters, Heather Bonin of Warwick, Rhode Island, and Courtney Hoffman of Sarasota, Florida; and his four grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Charles McKernan of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Timothy McKernan and John McKernan, both of Pocasset; two sisters, Virginia Cummings and Regis Petrozziello of Monument Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mr. McKernan’s life will be announced at a later date.
