Thomas M. Flaherty, 79, of Falmouth died on May 29 at his son’s home in Mashpee. He was predeceased by his wife, Noreen (Moriarty) Flaherty.
Mr. Flaherty was the son of Stephen and Delia (McDonough) Flaherty. He grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School, where he excelled at football, baseball, and track.
He earned an associate’s degree from Northeastern University before working as an electrical engineer in Cambridge and Waltham. He enjoyed coaching Little League in Norwell, running, and spending time outdoors.
Mr. Flaherty leaves his children, Michael Flaherty and his wife, Valerie Flaherty, of San Francisco, Sheila Flaherty-Jones and her husband, Gregory Jones, of Longmeadow, Robert Flaherty and his wife, Debbie Flaherty, of Mashpee, and Stephanie Flaherty and her husband, Peter Follet, of Easthampton; four siblings, Stephen Flaherty of Quincy, twin brother John Flaherty and his wife, Ann Flaherty, of Scituate, Edward Flaherty and his wife, Lois Flaherty, of Mashpee, and Daniel Flaherty and his wife, Ann Flaherty, of Duxbury; 12 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Flaherty was predeceased by his daughter Deirdre Flaherty; and his brother Joseph Flaherty.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 3, from 4 to 8 PM at McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street, Norwell.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 4, at 9 AM at St. Helen Church, 383 Washington Street, Norwell.
