Bourne Braves Baseball Season Notes - June 27, 2014

Bourne Youth Baseball Night

On Friday, June 27, the Braves will host players from the Bourne Youth Baseball Teeball, Western and Eastern divisions at Doran Park. There will be a BYB awards ceremony before the game at 5 PM. At 6 PM, BYB players will take the field with the Braves for the national anthem prior to the game against the Brewster Whitecaps.

Fourth of July Parade

Players, coaches, interns, bat boys, staff and members of the Bourne Braves board of directors will march in the eighth annual Bourne Fourth of July parade in Buzzards Bay. The parade begins at 10 AM. The Braves host Wareham that night with the first pitch slated for 6 at Doran Park. There will be a special pregame ceremony honoring veterans and active duty service men and women.

Transactions

The Braves released temporary catcher/first baseman Brett Lang (UNC Charlotte) on Wednesday, June 25, and activated shortstop Sutton Whiting (Louisville). On Saturday, the Braves activated right-handed pitcher Jacob Sparger (Louisville) and released temporary right-hander Jake Long (Clemson). Last Thursday, June 19, the team released temporary right-hander Ian Martinez-McGraw (Lipscomb) and activated righty Dylan Hecht (Cal Santa Barbara).

Hall Of Fame Game

Each of the 10 Cape Cod Baseball League franchises will host a Hall of Fame Game this season. The Braves will host their game on Monday, June 30, at Doran Park. There will be an exhibit showcasing memorabilia, such as old baseball cards, former player jerseys and items signed by former Cape League players who went on to enjoy major league careers. There will also be a Bourne Braves trivia competition for fans. The Braves host the Cotuit Kettleers that day, with the first pitch slated for 6 PM.

Red Shirt Friday

For the fifth season the Cape Cod Baseball League will hold Red Shirt Friday games. The home team will wear red shirts in support of American troops. The CCBL has teamed up with the Red Sox Foundation and the Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program to help Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and military families heal from the invisible wounds of war.

Youth Clinics

Youth baseball clinics sponsored by the Bourne Braves will continue throughout the season. The clinics are held Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11:30 AM at Doran Park. Clinics are for boys and girls ages 5 to 12. Two additional clinics will be offered for 12- to 15-year old players beginning July 7 and July 21. Visit bournebraves.org for more information.
