The Bourne 9-year-old All-Star travel team hosted its annual tournament the weekend of July 18 to 20. The 11-member squad faced travel teams from Barnstable, Falmouth, Dennis-Yarmouth, Harwich-Chatham and Sandwich.
While Bourne went undefeated throughout the tournament, the final two games in the playoffs were battles.
The semifinal game against Falmouth went down to the final at-bat, when Shea Ullo blasted a stand-up double over the Falmouth outfielders to knock in the game-winning run.
The championship game pitted two undefeated contenders, Bourne and Dennis-Yarmouth. Bourne came away with a 6-5 victory led by Jack Ferreira, Jacob Lewis, Damon White and Cullen Dunn. Tournament MVP Jacob Rosati shut the door, capping a tremendous weekend pitching performance.
The leading hitter in the tournament was Cullen Dunn, who hit 1.000. Damon White earned the final game MVP award with his pitching and clutch hitting.
Bourne’s Ben Conlon earned his third trophy with the weekend win, as he was also a part of the second-place Bourne U9 and U8 teams. Conlon also finished the 9-year-old all-star weekend perfect at the plate.
Head coach Dan Dunn said, “Our boys work harder than any youth team we have ever encountered on the field. We are blessed with a talented group, but hard two-hour-plus practices and years playing together have given this team strength to overcome hard battles.”
