Massachusetts Maritime junior Bobby Rosano and sophomore Everett Walsh combined for five hits and five RBI to back a complete-game effort on the mound from sophomore Kyle Kennedy that lifted the Buccaneers to an 8-2 opening game victory over Bridgewater State and a split of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader played Wednesday. The host Bears jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap and held on for a 5-3 second game triumph to gain a split of the twin bill.
Junior Zac Cooney tossed a complete-game four-hitter and struck out three to lead Massachusetts Maritime to an 11-0 nightcap victory over Fitchburg State and a split of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Falcons took the opener 3-1.
Cooney was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 11-0 victory.
Sophomore Brian Teague’s goal 43 seconds into the second overtime lifted Wheaton to an 8-7 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday.
Teague’s golden goal capped a second half comeback for the visiting Lyons (4-8, 1-3 NEWMAC), who trailed 5-2 at the break but roared back to take a 6-5 lead heading into the final frame with four unanswered third quarter tallies, the last on freshman Will Morrison’s marker with six seconds to play in the stanza. The host Buccaneers (7-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) evened matters with 9:44 remaining in regulation on sophomore Sean Staples’s goal and took a 7-6 advantage just 1:27 later on fellow sophomore Anthony Kurylak’s man-up marker, but Morrison knotted the score for Wheaton with 5:18 remaining in regulation to force the extra sessions. After a scoreless first overtime period, freshman Kyle Neale won his 10th face-off of the night for the Lyons, setting up Teague’s heroics on the game-winner.
