Bourne Volleyball Claims 3-1 Win Over GNBVT

 Bourne volleyball improved their record to 8-1 on Monday with a 3-1 victory on the road at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech (6-5). The Lady Canalmen (8-1) won the opening game, 27-25, and took game two, 25-20. The Bears came back to win the third game, 25-19, before Bourne put the match away with a game-four victory of 25-14.

“We didn’t play spectacular,” Coach Annemarie Souza said. “The first game was a comeback win for us and it gave the kids confidence. We were down 6-1 at the start and then it was back and forth the rest of the way.”

The Lady Canalmen played another back-and-forth second game, but solid play from the service line put them over the top. Bourne stumbled in the third game.

“It was our passing game,” Coach Souza explained. “We were passing on top of the net and not taking care of the ball.”
After dropping the third game, the Lady Canalmen turned up the heat in game four, led by an excellent game from Madi Durr.
“Madi was hustling all around tonight,” the coach said. “She was fun to watch. She finished with 16 service points, three aces, 11 digs, five kills and a block.”

Colleen Brady also had a big night for BHS with 13 digs, seven kills, seven points and two aces. Karlie Ciampa was strong in the back row with 16 digs.

“Karlie played her best game of the year,” Coach Souza said. “She did a great job on passing and defense.”

Freshman Miranda Partosan had five kills and three digs.

“Miranda moved very well,” the coach noted. “I think she played her best game of the year.”

Shelby Corsano ended the night with 19 assists, 11 digs, five service points and two aces.

“Shelby played excellent defense,” Souza said. “It was probably the best defense she has played so far. She did a really good job.”
