Sandwich Cross-Country Runs Past Nauset

 Sandwich picked up wins in both boys’ and girls’ cross-country Tuesday as the Knights hosted Nauset. The girls’ team posted a 20-41 victory over the Warriors, led by junior Tory Sivco who covered the 2.85-mile course in a time of 19:55.

Hillary Gonneville (20:43) ran third overall, followed by Kylie McCartney (21:39) in fourth and Lily Barter (21:44) in fifth. Seventh place overall went to Lindsey McCauley (22:27), Molly Travers (22:32) ran eighth and Elizabeth McEntee (22:39) was ninth. Rachel Brown (22:41) took 10th place overall with Joanna O’Gorman (23:43) and Lana Henderson (23:53) finishing in 16th and 17th place, respectively, to round out the top 10 for the Lady Knights.

The SHS boys defeated the visiting Warriors, 19-42. James Wegman was the overall race winner, posting a time of 16:22.08. James Silverman (16:26.67) ran second overall.

Henry Daniels-Koch took fourth place overall at 16:31.38. Connor Guerin (16:33:33) was fifth and Jake Barry (16:39.40) finished seventh. Ian McCartney (16:56.68) took eighth place overall. Shon Koren (17:12.19) ran ninth and Zach Starck (17:22.28) was 10th. James Hemingway (17:36.31) took 11th place and Ian Wallace (17:51.81) rounded out the top 10 for the Knights with a 12th-place finish.

Wegam led the Blue Knights last weekend at Saturday’s Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Frank Kelley Invitational Cross-Country Meet at the Wrentham Development Center. Wegman ran the 3.1-mile course in a time of 16:39.1, finishing 7th in a field of 158 in the Division II race and leading Sandwich to a first-place finish.

Daniels-Koch was 11th in 16:57.1 and Silverman ran 14th with a time of 17:08.8. Barry took 19th place, posting a time of 17:16.3 and Guerin rounded out the top five for the Knights with a 24th-place finish in a time of 17:24.7.

The Lady Knights ran 11th in a 20-team field, led by Sivco who placed eighth overall with a time of 19:57.8. Gonneville (22:15.3) ran 62nd, McCauley (23:05.8) was 91st, Barter (23:08.3) took 92nd and McEntee (23:32.2) finished 101st in the field of 158 runners.
