The Bourne Mashpee Wareham girls’ hockey team (1-2-2) played to back-to-back ties in their last two games. The unified team tied the Quincy/North Quincy team 3-3 last Saturday, while putting up a 2-2 tie against Norwell last night at Gallo Ice Arena.
In their first year of varsity play, the BMW girls continue to play hard-nosed hockey, despite their roster being half of that of many of the seasoned opponents they play. “What we lack in numbers we make up for in skating hard,” said Coach Kristyn Alexander. “We are not afraid to go right at our opponents.”
Offensively, the unified team looks to the skills of players such as Kate Albretson and Elizabeth St. Germaine, the team’s leading scorers. The girls get support from wings Dylan Innis and Anna Richard, while Evyn Hanley and Nicole Anthony do a great job of moving the puck. Also, Monica Conway and Emily Gregoire continue to work hard on the forward line.
Natalia Gordon, Brittney St. Germaine, and Shayna Santiago anchor the defense, while each has also notched her share of assists. Ariel St. Germaine continues to step up in net, giving the girls the chance to compete in each outing.
“Our goal is to be competitive in each game,” said the coach. “We can’t wait to play many of these teams a second time.”
