With a showdown with archrival Falmouth on tap for tomorrow night, the Barnstable High girls’ hockey team made sure there was no letdown as they doubled up on longtime Cape rival Dennis-Yarmouth 6-3 at the Tony Kent Arena in Yarmouth on Wednesday.

The Red Raiders, now 5-2 on the season, got goals from six different players in their first-ever meeting with the Dolphins, who are in their second year of varsity play.

Goals by Joey Johnson and Nicole Derosier sandwiched around a goal by D-Y's Kristina Chererie, sending the Red Raiders into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.

The teams traded goals in the second period with Katie Frazier lighting the lamp for a 3-1 BHS lead before the Dolphins' Katie Donahue made it a 3-2 game heading in the the last 15 minutes of play.

The third period was dominated by the Red Raiders as goals by Morgan Richard, Sarah Boule and Lindsey Phelan pushed the lead to 6-2.

Earning single assists for the Red Raiders were Meghan Moore, Callie Rogorzenski and Kylie Hallam while Boule complemented her third-period tally with a pair of helpers.

Nothing Like The Numbers

The Red Raiders spent most of the night on the attack but still needed three clutch saves by Carly Spalt in the final minutes to come away with the 2-1 win over visiting Whitman Hanson at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center last Saturday.

Despite outshooting their guests by a 27-10 margin, the Red Raiders were not able to translate that advantage onto the scoreboard as Panther goalie Melissa Hatch did everything but stand on her head in keeping her team in the game.

The Red Raiders opened the scoring at the 5:09 mark of the first period as winger Marissa Peri scored from in close and then saw their lead go to 2-0 with just :36 left in the period on a goal by first-line center Sarah Boule.

The assists on the Peri goal went to Morgan Richard and Katie Frazier while Lindsey Phelan and Callie Rogorzenski earned the assists on Boule's tally.

The Panthers halved the BHS lead on a goal by Jane Morrissette with 3:53 left in the second period but could get no closer with Spalt denying three quality shots by Morrissette in final two minutes of play to secure the victory.
