Nauset was invited to the party, but they certainly didn’t enjoy it. Senior night was a festive one for the Falmouth High School volleyball team as the FHS ladies put a hurting on the visiting Lady Warriors, romping to a sweep in three straight games.

Falmouth’s 25-16, 25-21, 25-15 win over their Atlantic Coast League rivals kept hope alive in their efforts to qualify for the state tournament. To get into the postseason, FHS needed to win its final four straight and with their win over Nauset, they got halfway there, improving to 6-8 overall.

The win set up a pivotal contest for the Clippers tonight in Dartmouth. Falmouth must win over the Indians, a team that swept them the first time around. Should they pull that one off, then Monday’s match at Cardinal Spellman, a team that they handled with ease last Monday, would put a tourney trip at stake.

But all of the postseason scenarios were put on the back burner for a while on Wednesday as the Clippers celebrated the careers of their three senior captains, all of whom played their final home match at the Antonucci Field House. Fittingly, the trio of Shannon Marcoux, Sally Alferes and Ashley LeBlanc were all pivotal to the team’s success against Nauset as they led the way to victory.

With streamers circling the bleachers and balloons attached to the bench seats, the Clippers got off to a fast start and never looked back. Marcoux was front and center in the win, topping the stat sheet with 10 kills, one of which left an indentation on the helpless defender who took a spike by the fiery senior directly off the upper torso. Alferes had five kills in the match, and LeBlanc’s serving throughout the match was nearly flawless as the team scored 14 points off her 15 serves. Sophomore Elizabeth Knox also got in on the fun, collecting seven kills in the match.

The seniors really brought their game tonight, and that’s great because it really was all about them today,” Head Coach Michelle Gregory said. “I’m glad that they got to have this experience today and win in front of all these people who came out to support them.”
