Eight goals by the Blue Knights were not enough to stop Norwell on Saturday as the Clippers topped Sandwich (2-2) in boys’ lacrosse 13-8.
The Knights played a solid game up front, led by Nick Gorrasi who finished with four goals and an assist. Nick Buttafuoco had two goals and an assist and Jameson Buttafuoco contributed a goal and an assist. Chris Rezendes rounded out the scoring with his first varsity goal. In four games this season the SHS attack of Nick and Jameson Buttafuoco and Gorrasi have compiled a total of 47 points.
Norwell took a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter and then outplayed the Knights in the second quarter for a 6-2 advantage by the half. The Clippers upped their lead to 10-5 by the end of the third.
“It was a clean game with not a lot of penalties,” coach Mike McNeill said. “Not scoring more in the second quarter hurt us.”
Tucker Hernon was dominant on ground balls for the Knights with seven. Nick Buttafuoco had six ground balls and Gorrasi picked up four.
“We saw some good things from Brian Wahle and Ben Maciel looked good on defense,” the coach added. “Max Wojnar also played well defensively, as did Joe Boudrow and Marc Petersen. Pete Davis and Sam Carl both did a nice job in the midfield.”
Eric Steele was in goal for the Knights, making 14 saves.
The Knights are scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Dennis-Yarmouth at 4 PM.
