Sandwich High School Teacher Coaches In Cape League

Sandwich High School teacher Brian Tomasini has a job this summer many in baseball would love: Bullpen coach for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Sandwich High School trainer Erin Gillooly, who is also the trainer for the Harbor Hawks, told Tomasini that a position might be available with the team this summer.
“I reached out to coach Chad Gassman, figuring it was worth a shot, and immediately got a phone call back,” Tomasini said. “I met with him two days later to talk about what the coaching job would entail. As the bullpen coach
I am basically an extension of the pitching coach with the relievers in the pen.”
Tomasini grew up playing baseball in Sandwich. He played baseball at Sandwich High School for four seasons, serving as team captain in 2007, his senior year. He also played Sandwich Senior Babe Ruth and for the Cape Cod Babe Ruth All-Stars, as well as for American Legion Post 188. He graduated from St. Anselm College in 2011.
He has coached junior varsity basketball and baseball for the Blue Knights and acted as Sandwich Senior Babe Ruth assistant coach for John Rudowski. The duo took the Senior Babe Ruth Cape Cod All-Star team to a state championship last year.
He began the summer Senior Babe Ruth season as an assistant coach alongside Rudowski but stepped aside when the opportunity to join the Harbor Hawks came along.
“Sandwich Senior Babe Ruth is a great program,” Tomasini said, “and it was tough to leave that squad and the talented athletes they have, but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
