Falmouth High School filled one of its two coaching vacancies last week, hiring former Clipper and Clark University outside hitter Amira Tranchell as the new head coach for the varsity volleyball program.
Tranchell is a 2008 graduate of Falmouth High and played at Clark until 2012. She was one of the top players for the Cougars and was an all-star while at Falmouth.
Former FHS teammate Brooke Fuccillo will serve as Tranchell’s assistant coach.
Falmouth High athletic director Kathleen Burke said she is pleased to have Tranchell rejoining the Falmouth family. Burke said Tranchell was mentored by and gained invaluable knowledge from the most successful volleyball coach in the state, Barnstable’s Tom Turco.
“We had a some interest internally, but there were no applicants. We’re always looking for coaches with previous experience, but she played in high school and in college. She knows the game, and she loves it,” Burke said.
“She’s a good kid, she was a really good student and Tom Turco is a great resource for her.”
Burke said finding a new head coach for the football program is now her top priority. The job has been posted, both internally and externally, for more than a week.
The AD said she hopes to have a list of finalists set by the end of this week, with a committee then assembled for interviews and the decision-making process, and a final decision by the middle of July.
