The Upper Cape Tech baseball team (14-6) closed out the regular season Tuesday, May 20, with a 14-1 victory over South Shore Voc Tech.
Tom Cummings got the start for the Rams and went five innings, allowing one run on five hits. Austin Smolinsky pitched the final two frames, holding the Vikings to one hit.
UCT led 2-0 entering the third inning, when they blew the game open scoring seven more times for a 9-0 lead. South Shore posted their lone run in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles.
Cooper Thornell went three for six at the plate for the Rams, with a single, double and triple. Rally Wheaton, Ben White, Nick Gagner, Cummings and Smolinsky each had two hits. White scored two runs, as did Smolinsky.
Cummings, who had a base hit and a double, scored a run. Jason Camoletti also had a hit for the Rams.
The Rams lost a 17-3 decision on Saturday, May 17, to Bourne. The Canalmen pulled out to a 9-0 lead after three-and-a-half innings. The Rams got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Smolinsky singled, followed by Matt Trapeano, who reached on an error. Anthony Delmonico then walked to load the bases for Thornell, who doubled, scoring Smolinsky and Trapeano. Wheaton then hit a ground ball that scored Delmonico.
The pairings for the State Vocational School Tournament will be announced May 23. The MIAA will announce the pairings for the state tournament on May 27.
