A run in the bottom of the seventh by top seeded Pathfinder left fourth seeded Upper Cape Tech with a 3-2 loss in the semifinal round of the State Vocational School Tournament on May 25.
The Rams struck quickly when Krystle DiBona led off the first inning reaching on a bunt. She took second on a passed ball and then stole third. Krystle DiBona then scored on a ground out by Amber DiBona. But Pathfinder answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the score, until the Rams pulled out to a 2-1 lead in the fifth.
Hunter Cook led off the top of the fifth for UCT with a base hit and took second on a wild pitch. Cook then scored on a throwing error. But Pathfinder tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth and then pushed the game winner across in the final frame.
Amelia Weare went the distance for UCT, allowing three runs, only two of which were earned, on four hits. She struck out nine and walked five. Weare retired the side in order in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings.
Krystle DiBona finished the afternoon 2-for-2 with a walk. Weare and Cook also had hits for the Rams.
